Anchor chain
Anchor chain is a steel chain that connects the hull and anchor.
The main function of the anchor chain is to connect the anchor and the ship, and transfer the anchor's holding force to the hull; when anchoring, because the thrown anchor chain has a certain weight, it can exert a certain amount of external force such as wind current on the ship in the water. Cushioning effect: the anchor chain of the lying underwater part maintains the force of the anchor to be level, which is conducive to the reliable grip of the anchor. At the same time, this part of the anchor chain can also provide part of the anchoring force due to the blocking effect of the soil.
Types of anchor chain
Anchor chains can be divided into two types: Stud Chain and Studless Chain according to the structure of their links. The chain link of the gear chain (as shown in Figure 1) is equipped with cross gears. When the size and material are the same, the strength of the gear chain is greater than that of the chain without gear. The deformation is small, and it is not easy to twist when stacked. It is a modern large and medium-sized chain. Widely adopted by ships. The chain link of a gearless anchor chain has no crosspieces and is only used for small ships. The specification stipulates that when the diameter of the anchor chain equipped as required is not more than 17mm, it can be replaced by a gearless anchor chain with the same test load, or a steel wire or fiber rope with the same breaking load.

The electric welded anchor chain is bent and welded with round steel materials that meet the requirements. It has the advantages of advanced production technology, simple, low cost, and good quality. Forged anchor chain has good impact resistance and toughness, but the manufacturing process is complicated, the cost is high, and the quality is unstable.
At present, electric welded anchor chains have been widely used on merchant ships. Almost all anchor chains are manufactured by flash welding, and cast anchor chains are rarely used. Except that most of the anchor chain accessories are forged parts, forged anchor chains have basically been eliminated.

Electric welded anchor chains are divided into three grades: M1, M2, and M3, and cast steel anchor chains are divided into two grades, M2 and M3. Add A before the corresponding code (such as AM2) to indicate a gear chain, and B to indicate a gearless chain (with BM1 and BM2 levels). The higher the steel grade, the greater the tensile strength. AM1 grade anchor chain steel is killed/static steel, AM2, AM3 grade anchor chain steel is fully killed/static fine-grained steel. For the same ship, if a strong steel is selected, the size of the chain link can be appropriately reduced.
